The idea for the original KitchenAid® stand mixer was born in 1915 when an engineer watched a baker mixing bread dough with a metal spoon. Soon he was at the drawing board designing a mechanical mixer. The result became standard equipment in most large bakeries and by 1919 the KitchenAid Food Preparer was being sold for use in the home.

In 1937 the design was modified by one of the great American style gurus, Egmont Arens, and It ranks as one of the classic iconic shapes of the early 20th century.

The KitchenAid® Artisan® stand mixer today has retained its distinctive features and is still an Arens’ original, a true testament of design greatness. It continues to use the same simple direct-drive motor and is still assembled by hand from reassuringly solid die-cast metal parts, receiving the individual attention to detail vital to ensuring top performance and quality.
